Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Are you kidding?

Why don't you wear a size 10 or 14 shoe?

Call me crazy but I think he's implying that correct fit is important.

It isn't though, that's why bikes come in a one size fits all type frame.

oh....

I don't always ride smaller bikes, but when I do I prefer a 49cm

365 / axle to crown in pixels * head tube length in pixels = head tube length in mm ∴ frame size

... I hope I'm getting trolled but I'll break it down for you anyway.

If you have size 12 feet, and you try to walk and run around in size 10 or 14 shoes - you are going to be very uncomfortable, right?

Similarly - if you belong on a size 54cm frame, yet ride a 53 or a 57cm you are going to be uncomfortable. See the comparison there?

You wear a shoe that fits. You don't wear a shoe that doesn't fit. Likewise, you ride a bike that fits. A bike that doesn't fit will not be comfortable.

Buy a bike that fits. Buying a bike just for how it looks is the stupidest thing you could possibly do, is typical for people who are attracted to "fixies" because they're "cool", and is why people are making fun of you.

Buy a bike that fits.

Its not like I ride the damn bike 50 miles a day every day. Being off by a bit isnt gonna break my spine or ruin my knees, especially if I ride only once a week which is actually what I do coz im full time at work and in college. I dont have time.

Im not gonna look like that guy in the picture above I can guarantee you that. You guys are blowing this way out of proportion lol...

It's not how you stand by your bike, it's how you ride your bike.

I mean, if you're not even gonna ride the thing, why are you buying it? Just to look cool with a sw8 fixay?

.... Did premium rush already come out or something?

Riding a bike that obviously doesn't fit is not only a great way to welcome ridicule, but a great way to increase your chances of injury.

It's the same as the shoe example people are giving you here. Wearing an improperly fitted shoe can affect your natural gait and cause damage to your spine.
