got myself a new bike
Been riding a walmart mongoose full suspension bike for a few weeks now. Been in the family for about 2 years. The past few weeks Ive been feeling it get more flakey so Ive been looking around at prices. I decided I would get the Giant Iguana once one of the local LBS's had it on sale. Last night I was riding the walmart bike and it felt like the right pedal was bending on the down stroke and making a creaking noise. Had a friend look at it and we came to the conclusion the crank shaft was bending.
So I decide to go to the LBS today to have a look at the Iguana and see what else they had in that price range. To my surprise there was a large banner announcing their sale (no mention of it on their web page). I went in last week and the store was full of bikes. Today it was almost empty. I walked out with a blue '04 Iguana! I figured Id get more than $55 off though but oh well. Its worth it.
Only rode it out of the store and to the car so far. Gonna break it in tomarrow though. Im just excited and wanted to share.

Sorry no pics...no digicam. Ill try borrowing one from a friend.
Went on a 11 or so mile ride today. Overall Im pleased but a few gripes.
Pedals: The freakin baskets almost killed me! I went between a curb and some posts at the landing dock (rode to a river) and almost fell over. I freaked out cause I couldnt get my foot out. I think I normally tilt my foot off the pedal so Im going to research some clipless gear. Any suggestions for $75 or less? Ill worry about the shoes when Im at the LBS. Just not seeing much differences between the price jumps so far.
Also my left basket is no problem to get into. Right basket is kinda mushed down so it takes a while to get in. My friend rode my bike around our resting area, slipped and tore his shin open while trying to get into that basket. He needs to get a pack! I carry all our gear and he's the only one to ever use the first aid kit...about every time we ride. /rant off The baskets are also making my toes numb... I believe Im just going to pull the baskets off until I get some clipless. Maybe pick some up tomarrow if I head for the trails.
Brakes: I got the disc brake iguana (I believe there is also one without). They dont seem to have the stopping power I believe they should have. Maybe I just need new pads or need to finish braking it in and give it another shot after I take it into the LBS for the tune up.
I think the front disc is rubbing somewhere although not much. Only reason I notice it is the slight distict sound it makes. Is this common and should I worry about it? Doesnt seem to be affecting performance at all.
Grips: My palms hurt during the ride. I donno if I dont have it adjusted right or not but this didnt happen on my cheapo walmart bike. Maybe because I had bull bars so I would move my hands around a lot. Should I get new grips, gloves, or is my bike adjusted wrong for me to be putting that much weight on my hands?
Hoping to hit trails in the morning. Doesnt look like weather will permit it...never know around here though.

I dislike Shimano SPD style clipless for the exact same reason you mentioned. I went with Times and never looked back.
Grips wise, I'd just get something softer. I find most factory grips are too hard for my liking

odi rogues are great. i don't think i'm ever going to be using any other grips on my bike.

I use oury lock on girps. there a little biger and give u a better grip for a bigger hand. plus they lockon so they wont ever come off or slip. and on the note for pedals, im an xc/dh kinda guy and ive always prefered platform pedals. always buy sealed bearing like and odesey or welgo. i use odeseys.

get a pair of crankbros pedals, you can get them pretty cheap sometimes...or times, i hear alot of good things about times, but i ride eggbeaters and i love them...they always have those like shoe and pedal combos at pricepoint...have a look at some of them...
