1974 Eddy Merckx

Hi all,

I just stumbled into a 1974 Eddy Merckx cycle made by Falcon Cycles in England. I found a picture online of the original flyer for them here: https://www.bikebrothers.co.uk/falcon...page01_800.jpg

The bike seems to be in good shape with a little rust on the edges but other than that...sound. Is this bike worth fixing up? (New tires, grease, brakes?) I have no idea what it may be worth or if I should even bother getting it rolling again.

Thanks for any ideas or help.

I'm far from an expert but I'll say it's certainly worth cleaning/tuning up. There are 3 models in that ad but at the least the bike would be made with 'straight gauge 531' (type of tubing) totally decent frame. Pics of the bike in question are needed before anyone with real knowledge will weigh in though.

Any bike with the name and likeness of Eddy Merckx on it on it is worth fixing up. I'd love to have one. He was "The Cannibal".

Pennsylvania. I'll post some pictures next week after I spend the weekend working on it and then we might be able to get a better idea. I'm not sure it will fit me so I'm open to selling.

After checking the tags on it ...looks like it is the Giro d' Italia model...

Good find. How did you date it to '74? If you clean it up, don't throw away or change anything. How's the paint and decals? Nice bike. Oh and, welcome to the Forum.

I wasn't serious about wanting it. Just trying to "encourage" you to get it if you hadn't already, especially if in nice shape. Check out Sheldon Brown's website. He has a few short paragraphs on the Falcon Merckx bikes.
