The goal of this group is one of two things:

It's true, you may not be "used" to cycling yet. But once you get a few rides in, that sensation of tiring your legs out before you get winded is usually a good indication that you're pushing too large a gear. Shift to a lower gear and spin for a while.

I have the opposite issue. I am winded before my legs get the least bit tired.

Yeah, I have been doing a lot of cardio exercises at the gym, so I feel my CV is in pretty good shape. As for riding my bike, I find myself spinning for a bit then legs will start to burn and I have no choice but to stop spinning and just kind of cruise for the lack of a better term. So although I might do 5miles at the time I am not always spinning those 5 miles. Maybe ~2-3miles of just coasting due to muscle fatigue. I might be a bit off on the mileage of coasting but that's how it feels.

May 2: 9.6, split in two rides
May 3: 3.2 Windy, felt like crap, came home (earlier in the day I "jogged" in the pool and swam for 45 minutes).
May 4: 8.5. Slow ride with lots of stops, but it was good. I think I am getting past my neck and shoulder pain.
May 5: 5.5 Just around the neighborhood, and to pick up chinese food.
May 7: 4.7 Hot for me, road the flats, after spending all morning at the flea market. My neck is sore again. But I'm riding.
May 8: 10.07 Yeah, I know, what is with ".07". It is my longest ride at one time in 30 years. It took me a long time. Still shoulder pain but no worse. Most of the ride was up and down on a gravel MUP. A runner would pass me on the uphill and I would pass him on the down. He beat me. But I'm riding. Saw Indigo Buntings and a couple of red headed woodpeckers. Heard a ring-necked pheasant.
May 8: 2.0 extra ride (43.57 so far!!!!!)
May 10: 6.0 Hot. Neck and shoulder hurts. 49.57 total for the month. I"ll have to ride a half a mile later to hit 50. Then, I am on a trip for the rest of the month. Hope I can snag a bike on my trip and ride it.
May 11: .8 Squeezed in before I had to leave town to beat 50 miles.

Sign "US" up as many of our rides are on a tandem or at least together on solos. So far we did 12.6 miles (tandem) on May 2nd. More planned.

I'm in.

May 1 (Sunday) - 13 miles on the bike, plus a whole lotta kayaking. The ducklings are late.
May 2 (Monday) - 8 miles to and from the gym.

Today remains to be seen. I've got about an hour this evening before my girlfriend and I are going kayaking in search of goslings.

I want to be in this challenge. I know a 100 mile month is not alot of riding but it will be more than I've been doing.

Have you thought about switching to an easier gear and going further? Maybe go for a time goal, maybe 45 minutes or whatever you can spare. Then keep at that gear and time until you feel you can click it up a gear, etc.

I saw this on iSpy. I'm not a clyde. but still slightly overweight (5'2" 135lbs), but can I still be counted in? I am on par for ~150 miles/week (42mi so far, and it's only Tuesday), granted the weather is nice.

Alpha, you might want the 500 mile a month thread instead. This is 100 miles for the entire month, not for a week.
