new guy. chicago area
so, i'm new here. yay. you're welcome
so i'm 27 years old now and havent been on a bike much since...well...since about the time i got a drivers license. I had a bike to ride around campus in college but didnt do much with it after i moved off campus.
I'm in need of an interesting way to get some exercise. I spent years and years in the gym constantly when I was playing college and semi-pro baseball and now can't motivate myself to go for more than a month at a time. And my knees are shot so I hate running. My little sister started doing triathlons so when I was down visiting her this weekend jumped on her bike to get an exercise in one day.
A friend of mine has a couple of nice MTBs I can borrow for a while to run around with them until I get something of my own. I think I would like to get a road/tri bike. I could see myself doing some limited distance triathlons in the future if I get back in shape and have some free time.
I've been all over CL looking at some things but I've never looked at road bikes so don't really have much idea about what I'm looking at. Hopefully people here can point me at a good entry level setup without having to go through an extensive learning curve to pick something out.

So what is the consensus on Motobecane bikes? I'd not heard of them before and they seem to cheap to be good compared to the bikes they compare themselves too.

I have one, it's served well for 5 years now. I just replaced the drivetrain because after 5 years I had worn it down to nothing...but it's a decent bike. There are much better bikes out there but I was on a bit of a budget. I still use it, too.

Ended up getting myself a used cervelo one in pretty excellent condition off a very nice guy who put a ton of miles on it. even inherited an ironman tech sticker on the frame. I might have to take that off so people don't get the wrong idea.
Put about 15 miles on it this evening and its fast and rides great.
