Old red Bianchi.... Information appreciated.

My wife bought me an old tall red Bianchi at a garage sale this afternoon, probably because she really liked the colour and figured I would like it. Yes, I know. You don't have to tell me. Also possibly because I have expressed regrets about getting rid of my old Bianchi a few years ago because it was definitely too small for me (21-inch frame).

Anyway, I suspect that this is a Japanese Bianchi because the components are more or less Shimano, except for the Italian Ambrosio 19 Extra Super Elite rims, and the frame sticker says "MAGNY Ishiwata". There are no other decals on the bike except for the "Eduardo Bianchi" decal on the head.

The frame measures 64cm from crank centre to top of seat tube. The entire bike weighs less than 10 kilos (less than 22 pounds).

The bike was apparently purchased for a triathlon...

Serial Number CS47XXX. Any information about the possible age / pedigree of this bike appreciated.

I missed this thread but saw the one in the mechanics forum. I think it is a mid '80s Special or sport. the fork looks like a replacement unless someone stripped the paint off the upper half

You would have the inside track on that. I used to have a black Bianchi that also had an Ishiwata frame and it had fully chromed fork as well. I have it on the authority of the fellow who owned it that he bought it to ride in a triathlon event about 25 years ago and has made no alterations to it, (other than wrapping electricians tape around the tube when he got a flat tire). For a big bike it is wonderfully light. The bike didn't cost much and I'll have fun with it - or I'll find a tall rider with deep pockets and a yen for a Bianchi.
