Besides CL/ebay, where do you shop for classic lugged road frames/sets?

hi!

i want to build a classic steel lugged road bike for my girlfriend so we can ride together...

im just trying to see what resources for classic road bike shopping there are besides craigslist and ebay. i have seen one or two small online shops that restore older bikes and sell them....just curious if anyone can point me in some new directions?

thanks in advance!

Serotta forums, here, flea markets and yard sales (though i NEVER score there), thrift stores (again, never score there).

Post a want to buy on your local Craigslist and be specific about what you want and how much you want to pay.

Stop in at the older local bike shops, and ask if they have something hanging in back. Also leave your name & number with them, in case another customer has something cool to sell. Sometimes the bike shops turn down trade ins and used bikes for sale, and wouldn't mind a small commission for getting a buyer and seller together. Give them a list of brands and era you're looking for... It's worked for me.

some good advice, thanks!

still wondering tho....any online stores that sort of specialize in selling classic road bikes?

and just an fyi, all im looking for in terms of a bike for the GF is a road bike that fits BUT i think my constant perusing of bike blogs and various bike porn has rubbed off on the GF, and although her general bike knowledge is limited, she knows exactly what she wants aesthetically, and that is a grey or silver or black lugged steel frame...size 54, and chrome lugs a very strong plus haha.

whatever it takes to get her riding with me more often ;p

I think C&V is the best place to search for a frame that might suit your girlfriend, there's probably many members that might have exactly what your looking for. Perhaps post something in the ISO thread.
