Hey, guys and gals, I made it to 65! This is sort of a milestone to me, as my dad died at 61, and my two best friends from high school and college both died several years back. So I consider myself very lucky to have made it.
Yesterday, my wife and I rode our bikes several miles down the trail, did a 4 mile charity walk, then rode back. The day before we did a 16 mile ride together. I can still bench press over 200 pounds, and I look pretty good, if I say so myself.
I seem ro be handling the atrial fibrillation okay, and, while I am getting just a few of those strange "twinges" from the Trigeminal Neuralgia lately, all-in-all I am doing great!
So, best wishes to all of you other 50+ bicyclists who are hanging in there, and a long and productive life to everyone!
This is a MOMENTOUS day!
(And, best of all, I am only 137 miles away from my 2004 goal that I set in January) -
and to make it official, I now have a MEDICARE card (those of you in the USA will know about this)

Congratulations DF! Although I know it sounds so "cliche"...you really are as young as you think you are. 65 & still going strong...you're a great role model for all us "young"
50 yr. olds. Hope it was a truly great day!

Yes, it was a great day!
Church and choir, then a bike ride with the wife and a picnic lunch (temp was a wonderful 68F) then a nap and finally a delicious Indian dinner with my wife, son and daughter-in-law!
Can't ask for much more.

My kids got a license plate frame for my Father-in-Law that said "Watch Out Grandpa's Driving Again". Maybe yours could get you one of those bike license plates to hang behind your seat "Watch Out Grandpa's Riding Again".

Denver Fox. As we say in afrikaans "Gelukkig Verjaarsdag" or Happy Birthday elsewhere. Congrats on reaching 65. Now try this you sloth: ride 65 miles, go to the gym and press 65Kg 65 times. 65 press-ups (one arm if you please) and 65 squat thrusts and 65 chin-ups. You have 65 minutes to do it all.
Glad to hear you had a great day. There are 23 yr olds who could learn a thing from you I'm sure.

Too much time spent installing bike racks in my new garage yesterday, so I missed this one!
Congratulations and a very happy birthday, Denver! I can only hope I'm going as strong as you are when I'm 65 years young.

Happy 65th . . . keep a-ridin'! I'll be 72 next month (rode only 31 miles today).
Aan Bokkie:
All you Suid Afrikaaners are still the same! Served in Korea and became an honorary member of the 2nd SouthAf Air Squadron in early 1953. Surprised them when they were singing: "Mijn Sarie Marijs is zoo verre van mijn land . . ." and I joined in for the rest of the song!
Tot ziens!

zonatandem,
Sarie Marais? Very sad, very, very sad to hear you could sing that song! I grew up thinking that only sub-zero intellects van die platteland took part in it.

DnvrFox-Trails Parker, CO. Congratulations to you! I'm alumnus of U.of Co., Boulder and love your neck of the woods -- tho' I'm a native Texan and live in New Braunfels, Tx (central Hill Country). I just paid $10 at Hope Hospice Thrift shop for a Roadmaster Scorcher, which seems to be in pretty good shape. I'm 60, know nothing about cycling except I rode a bike from age 6-11 and then we moved to the Caribbean (and my bike didn't make the trip). I'm recovering from three years of breast cancer treatment (my Super Car Wash--had it all not once but several times) and just want to do everything to stay fit. Know anything at all about Roadmaster Scorchers? (I've read it's not a very good bike).

Get out and try it, and see what you like.
My first recent bike - at age 57, was a $10 garage sale old 10 speed with a bent chain ring which I fixed with a crowbar. It got me going, and pretty soon I realized I loved bicycling, and bought something else.
The main thing is to START riding!
Have fun.

I hope I make it to 65! I'm currently 63 and just started road racing and it's a little tough . I'm loving it but I'm ever mindful of the fact that my body is 63 years old.
Not to worry, what doesn't kill me will only make me stronger; isn't that right he he he
