Hello from St. Petersburg
Hello. My name is Jeff and I live in St. Petersburg, FL. I am 45 years old. I have been bicycling for years. I have been an on-and-off bicycle commuter for several years, but now since I just recently sold my motor vehicle, I have jumped with both feet into the full-time commuting world.
And I am also jumping into the "repairing my own bicycles" world too.
I have three bikes that are essentially mountain bikes that I use for commuting. I am looking to go lighter on the bike weight thing [I am using 26 X 2.1 tires on all of my bikes] so I have been analyzing different bikes to see what my next purchase is going to be. Or maybe I just need different tires. Anyway.....
I have a 1999 trek 6000 mtb with panniers. This trek is my backup work-commuting bike, and the bike I use when it is raining. I have a 2006 Giant Transport SX that is a heavy duty bike that I use for carrying heavy stuff from the grocery store. I have a 2001 Cannondale Terra that is my main commuting bike. On this bike I have a rear rack with 35 pound Tidy Cat Buckets attached to it {I followed instructions for mounting them that I found on the web**.
My commute to work is ten miles [one way] and 80% of that is done on the beautiful Pinellas Trail.
With three bikes I always have a repair project going on and somebody referred me to this website. So as Gomer Pyle used to say, "Hey" to everybody.

Hey Jeff, welcome to Forums.
When I read your introduction title, I thought to myself, "St. Petersburg, Russia?" Turns out not to be the case.

I've never thought about bicycling in St. Petersburg, Russia. It's an interesting thought. It sounds fun although they probably don't have a Pinellas Trail there. I would be okay until I started publicly speaking out against some oppressive government / police activity. Then they would probably end up burning me and my bicycles at the stake. You'd be able to see the flames for miles.

Welcome Jeff, I'm fairly new here as well and am a former St. Pete resident near Coffee Pot Bayou in the Old NE. Now in Lakeland and just back from a morning 5 mile ride. Enjoy this awesome site!
