New Calfee tandem 300 mile report

We received the new frame/fork exactly 3 weeks ago today and have ridden 300 miles on the new bike. We are extremely pleased and want to thank the "Tandemgeek" for his write up on his experience with their Calfee tandem.

Our expectations have been exceeded. We road a ride on Sunday that we would not have attempted on the old bike. It was the Tulsa tough Gran Fondo in Tulsa Ok. There are hills in the Tulsa area and we climbed all of them with no problem except one where we had to walk the bike through wet gravel and then climb a very steep hill, I started to develop a cramp and choose to stop and walk up the last few yards. We are both amazed at how well we are able to climb on this bike as compared to the old one.

The bike is smooth and comfortable, we like it a lot! I would recommend it to anyone who wants a really nice well made lightweight tandem.

Bikes: Custom Zona c/f tandem + Scott Plasma single

Congrats on the Calfee . . .
Carbon fiber gives an amazing ride!
What were you riding before?
We own a Zona c/f custom tandem and have logged well over 33,000 miles on it since 2003.
Been tandeming since 1974 and our Zona is our 5th tandem but our first full c/f twicer.
We are not easily impressed, but after 8 years on this bike we are still extremely happy with our choice.
Enjoy the ride TWOgether!

We had an older Santana Visa that we bought used 11 Months ago. We had a Santana Targa several years ago and really enjoyed riding it but a family tragedy (death of teenage son) put us in such a state of grief that we quit riding for several years and eventually sold it. However by the grace of God we have been healed of our grief and reunited emotionally. So we decided to try riding a tandem again and it was love at first pedal stroke. We are hooked and the Santana did a good job sinking the hook. It is not fair to compare the Santana to the new Calfee, one being an entry level model and the other being a top of the line model.the Targa was very stiff and response but not nearly as comfortable as the C/F Calfee.

Just past the 1 year anniversary and coming up to 5000 miles on our Calfee. I still get a smile every time I swing a leg over it. Smooth climbing in and out of the saddle. Chipseal mostly tamed. Great acceleration.

TG should get commission from Calfee - there's nothing like the year long test report to get you through that scary moment of committing to a bike you can't test yourself.

The commission would probably need to be shared between TG and Mrs. TG, her comments about the ride quality sealed the deal for us.

I certainly agree on the acceleration, it is almost like a single bike.

Nice white bike. I have always liked classic one color bikes. We should really find out how TandemGeek gets his to stand all by itself with no support!

Here's another white Calfee for you then, from Team JDRF IGA at RAAM.

It uses that van to keep it standing, which is why it is called a support vehicle.
