NorCal East: Sunday 6/26 - Some Auburn Standards

Looks like this little weekday heat wave will break by Sunday. Current forecast is 88 degrees.

Come out and join me on Sunday to ride some of the Auburn area "Standards". Hills to include Auburn-Folsom, Bald Hill, Baxter Grade, and Ridge Rd. Lunch at the always outstanding Newcastle Deli.

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/487065 - Note that the cue sheet missed the right turn onto Taylor after Ridge. We'll regroup there anyway to ride to lunch together.

Regroups at tops of hills and key turns. Pacing around 17 on flats. Be self-sufficient (that means stuff to fix a flat), 2 water bottles, snacks, money for lunch, etc.

Rolling from Folsom Bike at 9am. Or, if you want a few more miles, from my place in Rancho at 7:30.

Hope some of you will come out and join me!

Hmm, I wonder if I'll see any of y'all? I'm riding in Auburn tomorrow too, on some of the same climbs.

We'll take a rain check -- headed to Hellyer Velodrome to try some track action. The weather should be perfect for your ride. Enjoy!

Yup, right when I got the green light at the top of the Newcastle Road climb after exploring Rattlesnake Road and the nice 14% Hayes Drive climb, I spotted three cyclists who had just descended Indian Hill Road and were pulling into the Valero station. I saw a Folsom Bike kit and a beard and I thought it might be JoelS. I bunny-hopped the curb and hauled ass over to the riders. I yelled "Are you JoelS?" Right away he knew who I was, even though we've never actually met before.

While one of the riders was in the store, the other two were nice enough to let me take this picture:

Here's my usual sufferfest ride video of Hayes Drive, the last part of Newcastle Road, and Crater Hill Road. JoelS makes his appearance at 2:45. Nice spin!

I got dropped at Ophir Road, but it was fun while it lasted. Here's the Garmin data from my solo ride on the hills mentioned, plus Chili Hill, Bald Hill, Baxter Grade, and some lesser hills like Mt. Vernon Road. I got a flat tire on the gradual descent of Mt. Vernon Road, but at least I remembered to stop and restart the timer on my Garmin this time. : https://connect.garmin.com/activity/95103145
