I had a PM that I read but didn't delete (to my knowldege) and intended to come back to. I don't see it anywhere now. 
Is there an "old mail" folder that I'm missing? Do they disappear after you have read them?

It should not be automatically deleted. You need 50 posts to send a PM, but I don't think that should affect any PMs that were sent to you.
