Shimano FD with SRAM Red shifter?

I have read that a Shimano DA 7800 FD will work with a SRAM shifter.
Is this correct? I love my SRAM Red shifters & RD, but the FD (Force) has been a pain to keep adjusted. The FD work flawlessly at times, but will then drop the chain to either side for no apparent reason. I've had it looked at & fiddled with it myself, but it still is quite fickle. I'm just ready to move on, but I like the double-tap, and I don't like shifting with my brake lever.
If a Shimano FD will work, will an Ultegra 6600 be compatible?
