In order to use any fork other than a C-dale fork on a C-dale with a Headshok or Lefty you need to replace the headset as well. C-dale uses a 1 1/2" headtube and a headset fork combo to match. Fox and other suspension forks are generally 1 1/8" steerer tubes I believe, so you'd need to install a reducer headset. I know Cane Creek makes such a beast, and I believe FSA might as well.
Personally, I'd look into this option carefully, it's more involved obviously than simply swapping out the fork. Chances are that a non-Headshox fork will change the geometry of the bike and therefore it's handling characteristics since it will probably elevate the front end of the bike. That being said, people to swap the forks on C-dales, I've seen it and since several companies offer the necessary parts, that should speak for itself. Good luck.

Same thing thinking about here. I am carefully weighing my options first. You also need reducers with the headset... It will bring in the front wheel slightly but the steering will be slightly quicker in my opinion.

no, the 900 doesn't have the lefty fork.... it's just the basic headshok. The F1000 is the first hardtail with the lefty.

My Fox Float 100, when installed, was only 1/4 inch taller than my fatty ultra 70 from the center of the dropout to the bottom of the frame head tube. It shouldn't alter your steering enough to notice. I used the Cane Creek Double XC short headset. You will only need the short model if your frame was made before 1.5 standard head tube was used.

cheers for your help. i went for a FSA reducer headset which i should get fitted tomorrow. is it true you just batter the forx out from the steerer? sounds a bit brutal.
