noisy drive train

I have a Campagnola Record 10 speed. Due to wear of the chain and cassette, I replaced both the chain and cassette. In the past this resolved any problems with the drive train, but this time the bike works fine but makes some unwanted noises. I think the noiose may be coming from the idler pulleys, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

Record pulleys are easy to remove, fieldstrip and oil, so I'd start there because it can't hurt. Do one at a time, with the chain in place and you (almost) can't screw it up.

If it's very noisy, though, take a good look at how you routed the chain. There's a tab which closes the RD cage between the pulleys and it's easy to accidentally route the chain outside rather than inside the tab. The noise would the chain sawing through the tab.

Other than that you might just be hearing the effects of a new chain running on worn chainrings.
