Heading to Squaw Valley, CA next week via two nights at the Venetian Las Vegas. Any insight on what to do with my bikes while I'm at the hotel in Vegas? I'm not sure the Venetian would be happy about me rolling them through the lobby and taking them up to my room. Do I leave them on the rack with the car in the garage or what? Any insight would be appreciated.

I have checked my bike's with the Valet. My experience is that they put the bikes in a storage locker with long term luggage. I get my bikes out and give the Valet $5. a shot. Everyone wins. You have a claim ticket on the bike, secure location, Resort is responsible for the bike while in their care.

My experience is based on living here and taking continuing education and seminars for my insurance licensing. I ride to the Resort (Green Valley Ranch, Monte Carlo) and just turn it over to the valet. Then take it back out later that afternoon. The Valet acts like they do it all the time. You might call the Venetian and ask for a Bell Capt. just to confirm with the Venetian. But it is owned by the Sands and they are very service friendly.

Would the same thing apply if I valet parked my car with the bike inside? I usually self-park, so I'm not familiar with what valets are/aren't responsible for.

Las Vegas is about the only place where I wasn't able to just wheel my bike up to my hotel room. Most of the hotels are deliberately arranged so that you have to pass crowded areas with slot machines in order to get to the elevators that take you to the guest rooms and I can see why they don't want bikes being wheeled through there. But, as mentioned above, the hotels have been good about providing safe storage and quick retrieval of my bike either through the same valets who handle car parking or at the registration desk with the bike kept in a locked storage room.

My experience has been with my bike being my primary means of transportation within Las Vegas - i.e. I rode it from the airport to the hotel (with my other luggage in the bike trailer), rode it as my means of getting around town and for other local travel such as visiting Hoover Dam, Red Rock, etc., and finally rode it back to the airport. If you're parking a car at the hotel, another option would be to take the wheels off and lock the bike in the trunk - or otherwise cover it so it's not visible from outside the car.

Your are probably safe taking the wheels inside to your room while leaving the frame inside the car covered with something like a blanket. I wouldn't leave it on the rack even though security in the parking garages is pretty tight and the area is being constantly monitored from inside the casino. Don't expect to get away from the heat that is so much in the national news for OK. We are now having a couple of days where the humidity is back down to tolerable levels but that is supposed to change again next week with a return of the monsoon season. Figure on riding at daybreak or in the evening. If you decide on the latter, bring lights for your bike and don't forget to bring some way to carry water.

Spoke with the Venetian this morning and the valet will be happy to store my bikes while I'm at the hotel. Thanks for everyone's feedback. As for riding in Vegas, I was actually going to wait until I get to Squaw Valley and then ride in the 70 degree temps around Tahoe. Rode last night in Norman (my home town) at 9:30 and it was still 101 degrees so I've about had it with the heat.

Of course, everyone is welcome to store their bikes at my house. Just don't be surprised if old parts show up on your bike if they are better than what I have.
