Does anyone know where I can find a 24t 1/8" sprocket for a sturmey archer hub? I'm looking to buy this bike for winter riding, but I'm trying to make the gearing more spin friendly.

From SA, they stop at 22t, so you change the chainring in front, instead, buy a smaller one
to get the External ratio between the 2 where you want it.

I like the stainless steel ones from Surly , a QBP brand, a 130 crank starts at 38t

Sturmey always used to say to not go below a 2:1 ratio on their hubs because it would put too much torque on those things.

AW3 with a 2:1 chain drive .. in a 700c wheel, nominal 27" is 54",
so low is 40.5, high is 71.82 .. that ought to work
38:19. 40:20, 42:21

You can use a 3/32 shimano cassette cog and file off all but three equally spaced inner splines... and round those ones off to fit in the cog carrier of the hub.

The Sram one linked should also work.

You also have to be wary of chainline - if you get an offset cog like the SRAM one and you used to have a flat cog, you will likely have problems. Same goes if you now have an offset cog and switch to a flat one.

Different Hub,
S3X will take a screw on freewheel as is , by design.
then you can have the chain drive
as the High Ratio, , the other 2 are .75, .63

I initially wanted to go 48x24 so I could keep the original chainring, but I could also go 44x22 by replacing everything (chainring, sprocket, chain). It's just a shame to replace all that when it's otherwise perfectly good.

Changing just the Chainring is easy.. If that is confusing,
putting the BD bike together by yourself, might well be worse .

Perhaps a Bike put together by the folks at a Bike Shop will be better..
the single speed thing is fashionable these days , lots of brands have one..

Arrgh! Why does Bikes Direct call this a track bike? It has water bottle braze ons, brakes, and a 5 speed IGH. What on earth is "track" about that?

I was going to suggest a smaller chainring, but a 130bcd won't hold one small enough.

So it is either replace the chainring and crank, or get a new chainring and cog.

130BCD will usually fit a chainring down to 38, which would require a 19 tooth chainring to get 2:1

The maintenance isn't any issue. I just don't like wasting parts.

I think I'll go 44x22 for drivetrain life.
