giant expressin

Hi all , I am a new poster this forum , and a novice mechanic. I have a Giant expression which I use for commuting, the bottom bracket appears to be loose.
From the little info I have managed to gain it is of the 'semi cartridge type'.
My question is can this be tightened up and which spanner would I need to buy to do this?- I already have a crank puller but no c type spanners- are these standard or different?
Also if it is not possible to tighten it which replacement cheapish part would be the best replacement and the correct size?
many thanks, Rob
