Training Question

I'm in my last year of school (finally!) and I am on a 6-week rotation schedule. My schedule just changed so that I barely have time to get a 1-hour ride in before work Mon-Fri. Luckily, I have a nice climb next to my house that takes exactly 1 hour for me to complete- It's an 18-mile round trip with a 1500 foot climb over the first 9 miles. What kind of workouts would you be doing to get the most out of the hour each day? I have been riding this M-F and doing a 3+ hour ride Saturday mornings with 5,000 feet of climbing with Sunday being a rest day. I am a Cat 5 and am just trying to get faster over the climbs.

Are there any races left for you this season? Racing is done in some places. If it is in your area, and you are not racing cross this fall, it is time for base and you should be reading Friel's Training Bible.

If there are races left, you should train for the climbs you want to be faster over. They are probably not 1500 foot climbs, so you should be doing hill intervals to mimic the climbs where you are getting dropped.

There are some Crits here that run through October...if I get a night off I was planning on doing one or two more this year. There is also 1 TT left up this same hill for the season.

Yep, that's a better schedule if you can ride on sundays.

You should not be "going hard" every day. When you do that you're not getting enough rest and you are not really going as hard as you should be during intervals.
