this can't be right...

I had the LBS replace my bb back in late May, but the crank was hardly quiet after that, even when I would tighten it all back up. Well, today I sad enough is enough, and removed the BB to find this..

I cleaned up most of the rust, and put it all back together, torqued, etc. Will get out for a ride in a little while, but since that was replaced literally 3 months (+/- a day or two) ago, it doesn't seem right to me.

Well, it's good working practice to apply grease / Anti-seize when assembling stuff like that, which I guess the LBS didn't do. Greasing is also one of the top recommendations on how to cure squeaks and creaks. But the LBS hasn't got any part in the moisture getting in there if that's what you're thinking. And the actual moving part of the BB isn't affected.

still find it odd. the click sound is almost completely gone now at least. still a random one that I can pin to the crank system, quieter, and afaik might be from the rear gears or some other oddity, but better than before. still seems like a lot of rust in there, not sure if I am annoyed that the BB was discontinued long before it went into the bike, but I assume it to be comparable to the 54 which I can find online.

Rust builds up fast in that area, especially if the bike is stored outdoors or in a garage. Next time you should bring the bike back to them. Any respectable shop will clean out the rust and apply grease at no extra charge if the work was orginally done there.
