A littl e help from the Campy experts

I have a mid-to-late 1980s Athena RD (6 or 7-speed, likely 6-speed) I'd like to use with 8-speed Chorus Ergos and an 8-speed Campy cassette, if possible.

The arrangement basically works, but the chain wants to skip in a couple of the middle gears. Is this the best performance I can expect (without changing derailleurs), or will a little more fine-tuning likely solve the issue?

TIA

I'm not sure Synchro era (late 80's) indexing was the same as Ergo, so I can't give you a definitive answer; but:

I do know I never got my 80's Chorus 7s derailleur (the one with the A/B adjustment) to play very well with my 8s Ergo. It was just never quite right. Everything worked much cleaner & quieter with a 90's era Chorus rear derailleur. YMMV.

Sincerely I would use those shifters as friction mode and problem solved because u can use any wheel, any speed in that mode.

Yeah. That's what I figured. Now to find a 90s era RD....
