Trek Bruiser 2
hello all!
I'm very new here, I just registered. I've seen alot of great info given to people here and so I registered. Could anyone tell me if the Bruiser 2 would be good for me? I do alot of harsh trail riding along lakes, do stairs, jumps, curbs, Beach biking (through lots of sand), and riding streets. I would ride it almost every day for hours on end. If this isn't the right bike for me, could someone please recommend one to me for around $700-$950 Canadian? Thanks!

That looks like a great bike for you. There is also the Kona Shred, Specialized p.1 (that might be a little over budget, but only by like $50), the specialized hardrock pro disk, the Giant STP 2 (not sure if thats good on trails or not) and there are more that are not coming to my mind at the moment, but you get the point. There are alot of bikes for all around fun, and will hold up to alot of the crap you throw its way. I have a Kona Shred ($650 U.S) and have only taken it up on the trails about 5 times, and I spend the rest of the time fooling around town. I actually went out for a ride to day, but the stupid snow drove me and my friends inside. grr. Any way, Yeah. Those are jsut some other bikes that will work I think for you, but hey...im just a newb I guess.

The one disadvantage to the Bruiser is that there's no top ring, so all you get is a 22 & a 32t chainring. If you don't plan on doing much medium to high speed riding on the roads you won't notice it too much. I have a Specialized Hardrock Pro Disc and it has a 22/34/44 and I very seldom get onto the top ring. The hardrock comes with better derailleurs (Deore vs Alivio on the Bruiser), better front derailleur (Deore vs Acera) and MUCH better brakes (Avid BB5's vs Hayes Mechs, which get horrible reviews). Mind you, my hardrock came with BB7's for some reason, most likely because it was the first run and they couldn't get any BB5's so I got lucky. I have to say the frame on both bikes is built really well. My advice is to go down to your LBS and ride both. See which one fits best and feels best. Buy said bike. If you can find a hardrock that still has the BB7's on it, it's worth the money. They're amazing brakes and are normally $70-80 per wheel.
