Suntour Shifter question
I have a frame that origionally was equipped w/ Suntour Lepree and I was moving over Shimano 600 Deraillieurs but once I removed the shifters I noted the shifter boss was square unlike the Shimano 600 that I was going to swap. Is this something with the 600? What other offerings might I want to use or can I use the Suntour shifters. This is for a 7 speed rear.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Some Shimano shifters used a proprietary boss. I have converted standard cable adjusters to fit with a dremel tool, but if you want use downtube shifters, you may be stuck with something other than the shimano 600. Fortunately, the square bosses are standard, and you could use something much nicer than shimano 600.

i believe you can buy adapters that will allow you to mount the Shimano 600 levers. They're sold on Rivbike.com for $6.

I believe at one time all shimano shifters were intended to use a round base but as the square base base, as the square one became more standard, if you will, shimano devised the little adaptor plates that are commonly found with index shifters.
do the screws with the 600 shifters fit the bosses? alot of the......
ah wait a second... what 600 shifters? are they indexing?
you need those little backing plates like on this photo below the shifters. if your bike is steel you can use either the curved or flat backed although the curved look better. for alloy you need the flat ones. check with the mechanics at your LBS who have been around the longest, you know the guy who never tosses anything out.
