My first post on the board. . .

Does anyone have any experience of Ecosmo bikes? I've seen a few advertised and am considering purchasing one. I read recently that if considering buying a lower spec Dahon you should probably purchase one of their sub brands (of which Ecosmo is one) as their price is much cheaper. Any truth in this? Any thoughts welcomed. I've previously been considering a Vitesse.

You are right, it is much cheaper. have you considered a second hand one? Might be a better option. There are many bargains out there from people who bought a budget generic folding bike and didnt use it much and now want to get rid of. Gumtree & ebay is a good place.

those are no frills lower end models built by Dahon China. Not bad but somewhat ...
If you are looking at a VItesse than you already are 3 steps above ... gonna be somewhat difficult to compare...

give the used market a chance if money is super tight, or get a real Vitesse :-)

A to B tip: Unless you're looking for a rare top-end model, our advice is to ignore the Dahon brand altogether and go for a very similar (sometimes last year's model) but cheaper 'badge-engineered' model. Our top buy at the moment is a German-market single speed 20-inch Dahon with a Compass Marine badge for £120. Not as cheap as it was last year, when they were almost giving them away with Rice Crispies, but great value, and a solid little bike.

If you want a bike to keep in your car for an emergency, you dont plan on using it that often, then one of this £120 bikes will do (Decathlon do some cheaps too) but if you are planing to keep it for a while longer, its worth investing a little bit more and getting something better. There are some good cheap dahons out there that will have better components, check fudgecyclestore.com in London, they have loads of them, otherwise second hand is the way to go.

Thanks Juan - I think that is pretty sound advice. As ever, if it is too good to be true, it probably is. I'm going to look around for a second hand Dahon, will let you know how I get on.

My partner has had a decathlon hoptown for a year, definitely low usage but he's very happy with it. Taken it two france twice and quite a few trips around london. Still probably works out as once per week over the year, so the thing looks new.

Is this common in some countries?

gets you around left hand turns better..... in some countries they are building more and more traffic circles .... they are like mushrooms in Germany for example.... and this port orientated crankset and derailleur chain etc etc will make the counter axis accelleration possible to get the bike into fourth mode. ( just short of warp speed ) as long as the diameter of the circle is below X and there are no plants growing in the center.

Sorry for reviving a rather old thread, but just want to make sure people know that these bikes snap in two after two years regular use. Very poor welding on the fold bracket is to blame, and is clearly visible. - Album on Imgur

I have seen many bikes in Thailand made by Dahon of China or licensed by Dahon..I have one..called a Yeah ..It is an excellent bike and much cheaper than a Dahon in Thailand..I think this Yeah company made Ridgeback UK folding bikes..I would say go for it...at the price they are

Hi I've got one and i am very happy. it is one the best bikes i ever got.
