65 kilometers full loaded touring to the sea

Over the weekend, hubby and I took the train to Winsum with our bikes then cycled up to Lauwersoog. (29 km) We camped for the night and in the morning took the ship to the island Schiermonnikoog.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schiermonnikoog

Schiermonnikoog is awesome because its part dunes and trail riding, part car-free village, part flat paved trails. The entire island is nearly car free (only permanent residents can have cars and most chose not to). The beach was lovely and the weather this weekend was lovely. This was where being fully loaded with gear stunk. Going up and down the dune hills was difficult for me, but I did do it. Taking it all off the bike and carrying to the beach stunk too. We did 10 kilometers on the island and could have done a whole lot more if we had spent two days. As it was, we had to come home in the evening for another 24 kilometers back to the train station.

Overall fantastic weekend and I highly recommend it if you come to the Netherlands!

Looks nice. Pretty amazing weather us North Sea-dwellers have had recently, my home is about 150km further north than Schiermonnikoog and it was hotter here than in Athens, Rome or LA at the weekend. Won't last, but a nice surprise in early October...
