How to sell a bicycle?

How do you sell a bicycle? I understand posting etc, but I really don't trust complete strangers taking my bike for a test ride. Think they and my bike will disappear...Today's ease of fake IDs don't help either. What's the consensus?

Hi Meek!

If you're able to ride and you have a friend who also cycles, just set up a time to meet the prospective buyer. Both you and your large male friend can accompany the buyer on a friendly test-ride, within a half-mile radius. Three cyclists riding three bicycles. What could be more fun?

- Slim

PS.

Of course, you will only deal in cash or take care of the business end, within a bank. Never accept checks of any kind!

I'm in a similar boat, gearing up to sell a few bikes etc. I however have a very large driveway and plan to force them to test ride in loops

Sounds kind of fruity to me.

Meet him somewhere, check his ID, let him take the bike for a test ride. You a have his car there with plates and all.

If you take your Bubba with you, he just might laugh at you and steal your bike for fun.

1) Go and meet the buyer
2) Get your wrestler friend to tag along
3) Sit back and watch the transaction go smoothly

That's sounds smart to me in a time where fake ID's and counterfeit checks are running rampant. People are doing all kinds of things to survive in these times of high unemployment. This is one method used to steal bikes. Having a second person to serve as a witness should never sound "fruity" to an intelligent person. Having a large large, somewhat intimidating, but yet normal-looking male, can also double as a witness. Since, they would all be on their bicycles, it would be an absolutely inane gesture, to attempt to steal the bike. He wouldn't steal it, if I were there! If he were to try it, he most certainly wouldn't be laughing, afterwards!

PS.

I think he might have a pretty good chance with you though, since you're partial to fruit.

I am the large normal looking male. Some of us don't need a Bubba!

Everyone who comes to my house to test ride a bike drives a relatively new car. It stays in the driveway until they return from the ride. I also ask for "cash only" in my CL ads.

The other method is to ask to hold onto the selling price cash while they test ride.

This is way simple. I'll do it in 8 words.

No cash? No ride. You crash? My cash.
