52cm or smaller Soma Double Cross - rear break cable routing?

Does anyone have any pics of the rear cable routing of a Soma Double Cross size 52cm or smaller? Smaller Double Cross frames have a seat tube mounted cable stop instead of a chain stay mounted one.

But I don't get it. There's a cable stop on the top tube near the head tube. Then, on the seat tube, there are two separate brazeon things. A curved noodle like brazeon that looks like it should guide the cable...AND another brazeon that right below that.

How does this work? What does this look like?

Thanks!

Bikes: Too Many

It looks like you run just cable from the first stop through the curved noodle and to the brake. Does this frame have disk mounts? That's the only thing I can think of for the lower stop.

A larger picture would help. I couldn't find anything similar on the google images.

Edit: I found this thread with the same question.

The SOMA web site says this. "52cm sizes and smaller have a seat tube mounted cable stop instead of a seatstay cable stop"

Nope...this is not the disc brake frame. I have on clue what the bottom stop is for. Huh...

I'd guess that the lower stop is for V-brakes. I have an old Specialized Rockhopper that came with canti brakes and a brazed on noodle like you have on top. When I switched it over to V-brakes, I had to improvise and eventually had the old noodle removed and a standard cable stop brazed on.

That crossed my mind...but I wasn't sure. But if you think so too...maybe that's what it is!

contrast! anyone got a picture of a white one , that sucker is hard to see,
maybe some indirect lighting?

FWIW, My Old AlAn I ran the brake cable thru the seatpost, it became the hanger..

My Touring bike I did some of that noodle , used hydraulic line from the auto parts .
brazed the other end to a u shaped bridge.

Yes, The bike has both canti mounts and disc brake tabs and cable routing.

no, this is the canti only...it's the double cross, not double cross dc. this fram does not have disc brake tabs on the left chain stay.

EDIT: the other thing is the placement of the two normal looking stops. what i mean is...the stop pictured in this thread, the one below the curved, noodle brazeon, is located at 3 o'clock (if you look down the top tube from the front of the bike. the front cable stop is located at like 1 or 2 o'clock. so they don't line up.

is it possible that some just f'ed up making this frame?

so you think the bottom stop is for routing for v-brakes?
Probably. is it a housing stop for bare cable ahead of it?
then you run housing from that to the noodle on the brake.

ahead of it? i'm not sure what you mean. on the top tube, there is one normal cable stop towards the front of the bike. then there are the two stops that i posted a pic of. that's it. and the cable stop towards the front of the bike does not align with either stop on the seat but...which means the cable would have to angle across the top tube instead of going straight across. it's all very odd.

I suspect this is mechanically over your head, reading this, so far.
perhaps you should turn this build project over to the mechanics
at your local bike shop.

yes one stop at the front, 2 at the back for both type rear brakes.
it cannot be in perfect alignment with both.

you shopped for lower price, not perfect alignment of all the parts.

but it aligns with nothing. the cable stop on the top tube near the front is close to 12 o'clock. the two stops on the seat tube are both around 3 o'clock. so it has to angle quite a bit to use the curved top cable guide, and it has to angle even more for the cable stop below it. is that normal? on every other top tube routed bike i've had, the stops have aligned. i plan on taking to a bike shop as soon as i have all the parts i need to actually have them build the bike up. but i was just wondering if my frame is fine or not...because it is so different from anything i've seen.

as for shopping for price...it was a brand new old stock straight from Soma. my wife's surly was even cheaper and it looks perfect. i don't think lower price excuses Soma, if in fact this frame is not the way it's supposed to be. i've emailed soma but they have not replied yet.

Bikes: Mongoose Switchback

Are you worried that the cables would not run exactly parallel to the top tube for appearance sake or functionality.
Not a probblem on my Mongoose

Yes, I know the rear cable housings are too long, but it works.

Look at this Soma video for most of your answers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wqfq-_KGBg

When building a munchkin frame you have to make compromises.

The cable stop "misalignment" isn't a problem. It's the solution to the unique challenges of a very small frame and having the ability to upgrade to V-brakes. That's a good thing that the designers were thinking ahead like that.

The fact that it wraps around the top tube isn't a problem. If you string a cable between the stops, it might be close to the tube, but not touching it. Not having it perfectly aligned won't be a problem either. There's a certain amount of misalignment that is allowable when working with cable. Don't worry. My Van Dessel G&T has a FD cable that goes from the 4:00 position on the down tube at the head tube to the 6:00 position at the bottom bracket. The cable ends up being close to the tube, but not touching.
