Catrike Extension
I have an '09 Catrike trail that I want to add the wheel extensions offered from UTAH TRIKES.
I'm using 2" Big Apples on the front and intend to use a 24" wheel and match with another Big Apple for the rear.
I'm also using a Scram DualDrive now and will swap to the 24"
Can't wait!!
Anyone else using the extension's, what's your experiances.....good or otherwise?

Changing your rear to a 24 will change the aero a bit; your seat will rise a bit and your BB will drop a bit and your gear inches will get a big bigger on both ends...other than that, the trikers I know that have changed to a larger rear were not concerned with aero or the fact that they now had to add an additional tube size in their gear bag and have another size tire at the house as a spare. They were more interested in higher end gearing and carrying full sized panniers easily for touring.

When you use the extension made by Utah Trikes it doesn't change the front bb height or the seat angle either. It was designed to take care of this. It is a great way to increase top end gear inches.

I used to own a Catrike Trail and installed the wheel extension kit. I had a 26" wheel with a Big Apple. Other than looking cool, I found no other advandage to the larger wheel. In fact when cornering you get much more wheel flex. If I had to do it again I would just add a Schlumpf High Speed drive for taller gearing and left the 20" wheel.
