Just bought (ordered) a Specialized Hardrock Disc
So I got this bike for a hunting bike it's gona be pulling a trailer and was wondering if the brakes on this bike will handle the weight behind it goin down hill probably around 200lbs not including trailer. Is there a better brake setup that I can upgrade to if these don't work out? I got about 9 months till my hunting season. Any other things that should be upgraded. New to the mountain bike thing the only one I have had was a cheepo $100 Walmart one Wich prety much fell apart.

If you need more braking power than the stock set up, the cheapest way to improve it is to get larger rotors.

Make sure it works properly before you plunk down the money and take possession.

Assuming your trailer isn't going to have more than another 100lbs and you riding the brakes on a downhill for long-ish periods of time, it'll be perfectly fine. I assume you're not gonna be hauling ass through the woods at 20mph pulling a 100lb trailer, so I bet you won't be pushing the brakes near their limits regardless of weight.

Thanks for the info on the brakes. Also not sure if any of you hunt or not but do they make a mount to mount a bow to the bike.

I have no idea if anyone makes one or not, but that would be pretty bad ass. On the plus side, it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to fabricate. Maybe even just bungee it to the side of a rear rack? Below is a link that came up when I put "bike bow rack" into Yahoo. Maybe some different search terms would result in something else/possibly better. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the MTB part.

EDIT: Here's one by Pacific. Not available here, but maybe you could find it elsewhere.
