clean it and treat it with triple antibiotic ointment until it goes away. get your self some chamois and the butter before your next long distance ride.

Saddle sores are a common problem that many of us have delt with, and there are common solutions. Do you go to a doctor every time you jam a finger too?

I'd go to a doctor, but frankly they scare me (doctors and hospitals are my only phobia) and my insurance blows anyhow. I've heard that Prep H works well.

If you can't tell the difference between those two types of injury and the potential complications, then it's pointless to even engage you in rational discourse.

Still kicking.
Take a couple of days off from the bike and prep h. If it's really bad, go see a doctor.

always take your shorts/pants off immediately after every ride and wash yo junk
now that you got them ( i get them all the time )... you're going to die. (NOT A DOCTOR, YMMV)

Fresh Garbage
This is a pubic service announcement,
Wash yo' junk!
I have not had a real open sore yet, but occasionally I get some sensitive bumps where I tend to have the most friction. Once this clears out it will be a good idea to shower before the commute, not ride long durations with cotton underwear, or not ride with anything that may ride up, and do as jdgesus said. Try to isolate the cause - saddle/underwear/hygiene/butt position

I shower daily, it's not open, and I change clothes like a woman changes her mind. Bag balm time...

Don't get all curious like I did with my first and start playing around with it like a pubescent boy with his first pimple. Yeah. Don't do that.

I use this stuff. It kicks ass. Rather, it soothes ass with calamine lotion and reduces friction and sweat. I've been using it now that I'm riding indoors and it's really hot/sweaty. Also showering immediately after each ride.

the same place you got yours? i thought he was asking for advice, not a quote from a medical specialist. i gave him some fairly good advice that would probably sooth the problem as well as the bag balm or monkey butt powder but with antibiotic qualities.
sorry to have tried to help someone with a relatable experience.

Saddle sores come and go.
I have sensitive skin and get them fairly frequently, esp. if I am riding alot. Unless they are directly over the sit bone or particularly persistent, I usually just ignore them and they go away within a week.
I would say I deal with a minor saddle sore about 25% of the time.

Fortunately, I've never been there. I'm sure if I had it would change the way I treat them.

For me, the problem was a particular chamois that had a textured surface. From now on it's smooth chamois only for this guy.
