These have been in my garage since I was probably about 14. We purchased some bike from a garage sale and then swapped wheels over to regular clinchers and my older brother rode it periodically. Then that bike was sold (at a likely embarrassingly low price) and these were stashed on a shelf.
I picked them up today when I stopped by to grab some junk from my old bedroom.

Of course, keep in mind these have been in a garage for a long time, so they're not super clean. I'll get to that later.

I had a similar pair of hubs I sold on ebay not to long ago. I polished them up real nice and took good photos. I had put $200 BIN or best offer and took a $150.00 offer. As far as the rims, not totally sure. I also had a set of Mavic module E 700c rims and they sold for about $80.00 by themselves. Little bit different than what you have. Found it to be way more profitable to do different lots instead of selling them all built up. Hope this helps a bit.

I was definitely considering selling them separated, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. If they weren't tubulars, I'd just ride the damn things. Or maybe my tubular reservations are just a phobia?

And perhaps someone knows the difference between Mavic "Montlery" and "Monthlery"?

(EDIT: and "Monthelery"... and possibly/properly "Montlhery")

How rusted/corroded are the spokes? If they don't turn with a spoke wrench you might be better off cutting them up for maximum value, and you don't have to feel bad since they'd need to be rebuilt anyway.

Don't be scared of tubulars! The only scary thing is the price of new tires... Go ahead and ride them if you want.

The hub lock nuts should have a date stamp on them.

I read that, too. However, I cannot find anything on my locknuts, unless it's on the inside surface (which seems like an odd place, to me), and if that's the case I won't know until later when I overhaul them.

The spoke seats are a little tarnished, it looks, but everything is operational. Spokes themselves are just fine.

I agree it does seem like an odd place but yes IIRC the date is stamped on the back side, I guess since the front is serrated for better bite.


I also agree you need to try tubulars. you can always go the Yellow Jersey route and get their "pair and spare" for $50 that gives you 3 tires.

while these are some nice old wheels selling the whole may be problemmatic simply because it can be expensive to ship whole wheels.
