Forgot My Socks Today

Nothing says dork like black pants, black shoes, and short white socks on display when sitting at your desk.

A fellow commuter forgot his pants once

What is the worst thing you have forgotten to bring to work?

I forget a belt occasionally, but luckily my pants stay up without one.

I keep a full set of spare clothes in a tote behind my desk at work in case I forget anything. My job is jeans and t-shirt attire.

Underwear. That's the worst, especially since my work uniform was scrubs. You can't exactly go commando in scrubs. So I ended up wearing lycra bike shorts under my scrubs all day. Sweaty, stinky bike shorts.

I wear scrubs nearly all the time too, and they are forgiving if you forget something. Did you know that SCRUBS is actually an acronym for Surgical Clothing Reveals Unusual Bulges? (or Body sizes, Body shapes).

Socks? Phtttt....oh wait, your in Chi land...
Here is FL no socks is pretty normal - even in an office environment.
I have a coworker that always wears "tennis" socks -- the short ones.
Skivvies....commando in office attire is just, well, WRONG!! I can see where scrubs could be an issue, too.

Key card. I can't even get in without it. Had to ride home to get it.

I keep spare clothes at work also.

Shoes are always at work. I keep spares of all other clothes (stuff I don't like too much since I rarely need to wear it). I've never had to use the spare pants.

Transit pass.

I have a 40 mile one-way, so I do about 8 on the bike and the rest on the train. It sucks doing that first 6 miles only to realize that I cant board the train when I get there.

Worst thing I ever forgot was my bike lock. I left it at work after that. I also keep my shoes at work & a spare set of clothes here at work. When a pair of pants/shirt, etc wears out to the point I won't wear it to work, I just add it to my collection, so I have a full change of clothes at work, without spending anything extra to have it here.

The full set of clothes at work is a cheap insurance policy against an early morning "Oh no, I can't believe I forgot _________!"

I've forgotten my transit pass (TAP card in Los Angeles), so I just bought tickets that day, not a huge problem. Now I just keep the TAP card in a small pocket in my rack trunk.

I've forgotten the electronic "key" to open the gate when I get to work . . . just had to wait until someone else got there. Again, not tragic.

No underwear wouldn't be tragic either; commando in jeans is no problem!

Mnemonic

I have a dreadful memory. I used to forget something every commute until I came up with my "three threes": 3 outerwear (shirt/pants/belt) 3 underwear (socks/underwear/t-shirt), 3 shower (towel/washcloth/plastic bag for wet stuff).
Later I added my "fourth four". (Work ID/keys/wallet/phone).
Hasn't failed me yet!

I brought in a plastic closet of sorts to house a full week of clothes with my shoes and a toiletries bag/towel. Perfect solution. Only drag is that I wtill have to carry home all my cold weather gear from the morning ride so I usually have a full trunk bag and one pannier full.

I kept a spare socks, underwear, T shirt and an old office shirt and tie in my desk drawer, along with an inner tube (in case I got lucky).

Cell phone, keys or wallet.

Cell phone - part of my safety plan...

Keys - can't get into server room...

Wallet - ID, insurance cards, etc...

I leave my pants in the office, no chance I'll forget those...

...did forget spare underwear a few times during the summer and had to settle with a soggy butt for half a day.

I am scared to death of showing up to work without pants. I always double check before I leave, and then usually stop mid commute to make sure I have everything.

I usually only forget underwear or a wash towel.
