Is this worth buying? Folder on CL

I have started doing more traveling and want to pick up a folding bike. I saw this one come across craigslist in my area. I figured I should see what you guys think before throwing down.

https://boise.craigslist.org/bik/2892403649.html

Whats do you think? Worth it? Things to look out for?

Thanks for your help.

GL

its not a raleigh ..... which is not such a bad deal ......as it is a copy of one....
itsnot a collector item or worth collection in the next ten years .... which is also not a bad thing
Its gonna be heavy
its fold is gonna be cumbersome

its kinda neat as its recycled and somewhat old, and looks to be in good shape ....
I would offer half and see whats happenin

I don't see that as a bike worth $140. It looks like an old steel frame that is going to be heavy. It doesn't offer anything to grab my attention; I would limit my bid to $50.

I used to have 2 of those and sold both of them, Made in Austria possibly by steyr/puch. One came with a Torpedo boy Single speed hub and the other a Duomatic[ I kept the duomatic hub] no way i was going to sell that hub with the bike. I added a BMX single speed and sold them both. The hubs stayed with me. [forgot I still have one...its with my brother] I had so many folding bikes over the years I can't keep track of what I have and sold.

the problem i had with those bikes is the very low bottom bracket so expect pedal strikes on sharp turns and yes you tend to do sharp turns on small wheel bikes unlike its big wheel cousins.

2nd the bottom bracket shell is non standard diameter and uses cups so if you worn out any parts your out of luck or if you want to upgrade to alloys no can do w/o machining your own parts. [wearing cups is rare and only happens if no maintenance was done or the rings not tightened properly]

3rd I didn't like the hinge joints[the Raleigh is better]

mine came with proprietary 2 piece cranks...yours seem to be 3 piece using cotters.

but if you just want it the way it is it might be perfect for your needs.

certainly cool riding one of these than the cheap imports from the far east.

Thanks for all the input. Lots to think about and give me some knowledge for bartering purposes. Also, great photos. You make me want one of these bikes real bad with that beach photo!

if you bought a full size bike how much will a roof rack or bike carrier cost you ? probably way more than what you will pay for the folding bike

a folding bike will fit or can be used by almost everybody in your family from child to grandpa ..a full size bike will only fit YOU !

there's nothing to think about the folding bike is the best investment you'll ever make for your health and for your personal transportation the WHOLE CLAN or FAMILY can use !!!

if you didn't like it you can sell it for the same price you paid for it probably even more in a couple of years. As gas prices go up people would want to bike more and the folding bike is probably the best solution as you can throw it in the trunk no one would know you have a bike in there.

a full size bike on a roof rack or carrier is an invitation to theft. NOTHING beats a folding bike !!

That is a great photo. Looks like something out of a magazine. Must get a better camera...after I get my bike of course.
