smallest 'big ring' on compact sram apex?
Can I put a 44T big ring on my sram apex crankset? I currently have a 50/34, want to take it down to at least a 46/34, prefer a 44/34. Is that possible?

i can safely say that i have never encountered a crank that would not mount a 44t chainring. i have a crank with a 144BCD and it has a 42t chainring on it.
beware: my newest crank was manufactured in 1995 or thereabouts!

SRAM Apex Compact is 110 BCD, so you could put a 34T on both sides if you wanted.
If you go much smaller on the big ring, it would probably help to lower the derailleur a bit.

I guess what im wondering more is would a 44T big ring even be compatible with the crank set (cranks are compact apex). If that works, im guessing the derailer could be adjusted properly? not a mechanic, so no idea!

yes, it's possible. just make sure you buy a ring for compacts and for multiple speeds.

You can certainly put a 44 110mm BCD large ring on the Apex. You may not be able to find a ramped and pinned one, though. I put a 44 Salsa ring on my 110BCD crank and run it as 44/34. You will also need to be able to lower your front derailer, ideally by 1.2cm. You may not be able to lower it this much if your frame uses a bracket-mount (aka "braze-on") front derailer.

Make sure you include the terms "pinned" and "ramped" in whatever search you do for this.
