105 flight deck. spring that goes on the pivot pin, what is its orientation?

right side...I see how the spring goes in, where the catch is for the tab of the spring...but does it need to be pre-tensioned prior to installation of the pivot pin?

Or is it a slap it in and it does it thing naturally concept?
