Strava throwdown - Attn Beanz

No excuses, today was slow. You remain the virtual Mayor of Sart. I met some friends at Green River and the plan was to ride 20 towards the beach and then turn around. It was nice and cool, very little wind and I was SALIVATING about the golden opportunity to set some PRs.

Tragically, out of the two bros only the slow one showed up (and we work together) so the pace was, er, relaxed. We only went 30 instead of 40 too...

Maybe next weekend I'll do the Yorba park - beach - back route. Till then I'll have to rely on bombast, idle threats & casual insults.

There were about 11ty billion Sikad riders out clogging up the bike path too and I'd love to say that was the reason for the slowness, but no.

My crank broke. I triple flatted. Some old lady hit me with her Cadillac. I was trying to do a wheely the whole way. Actually, I saw a dude ride through an intersection the other day on his fixie and he did a wheelie the WHOLE WAY! Pretty cool.

Dunno. We did the same ride back in Feb and we were about the same speed... All I can say is I practiced riding no hands a lot today. Eating bugs, watching the Sikad riders go by. It was a gorgeous day either way.

Check this out, Gina's return ride. Been on the bike maybe once in the last month, but her return ride without pushing ro trying averaged 15.8 for the 41.2 miles. You can see that no PR's were set which means she was at cruising speed.

Gina 15.8 41.2 miles with a sprained ankle

Looks like a throwdown to me!

BTW, as I suspected. Now the membership has run out, I can still compare/see Clyde club members and full leaderboard. But I can not view age or weight categories.

Pretty respectable outing for a return!

Taft to Lincoln, check
Curves, check
3 mi TT, check
Lincoln to Taft, check
South Fire Station to PCH, nope
South Harbor "climb" check
SART PCH to first bridge, nope
North Riverbed birdge to bridge - nope.

Looks like I'm near tied with cruising-Gina but I need to post some respectable times in the PCH-Anaheim direction. I think that's the plan for this weekend, although there's some debate about where we should start (Yorba to beach or Green River to beach). Either way we should be able to get something worth comparing out of the deal.

As for Strava, if you don't use a HR monitor, I'm not sure upgrading would be worth it. There aren't that many clydes on that route anyway.

I really don't try heading back to Anaheim from the coast. Tail wind? The fun for me is heading into the wind. But when I was back in shape (better weight) I did a 22.6 solo average from bridge to bridge heading back to Anaheim. When I get back into shape I will try it again but for now and times posted, I haven't tried to lift the pace on the return.

I don't use a HR monitor so I won't pay for an upgrade. But if another free code comes along......

I seem to get head winds both ways out there lately, except for last Saturday... blissfully still.

I found two you can try - AL2M11 (2 free mos of premium) or girodilento11 (3 free months of full velo pkg, whatever that is). Try 'em and let me know. retailmenot.com is a good place to look for stuff like that.

Cool, they were all expired including the others listed on the site you posted. But thanks, will keep my eyes open.

Yeah, last week was a headwind right from the start. From Anaheim back to Imperial might have only felt like a headwind cause I was tired.
