Have you looked at the Illinois Bicycling Maps on the Illinois DOT website? They are downloadable county by county, are an excellent resource, and you could figure out a low traffic route very easily by using those. https://www.dot.il.gov/bikemap/state3.html We used these maps on a couple of recent trips, and they were most helpful; here's a link to a journal of a trip we took in March, and on a number of the journal pages you can see pictures of the kinds of great roads that the maps led us to: https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p...id=276529&v=4N
You also can order the maps from Illinois DOT.
I assume you are aware of the Madison County Transit trails that lead east out of the St. Louis metro area. If not, check out their website. The Glen Carbon Trail takes you to Marine, while the Nickel Plate Trail will take you all the way to Alhambra, IL, and from either of those places you can take lots of low traffic town and county roads east-northeast. https://www.mcttrails.org/
Also, here's a link to one person's route that will take you from St. Louis to the Madison County Trails: https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p...9o#pic_1128125
I'd use the Illinois Bicycle Maps ahead of google bicycling.
As for Indiana, I don't know, sorry.
