I have a weekly ride over to one of my old Customers to deliver eggs. Only 30 or so at a time so small rucksack and on the bike. Slight addition to the "Cackle Berry" machine now as you can see.



It's only 16 miles to the customer but takes in a village called Alfriston. Living on top of it you just pass through it but the village buildings attract a lot of tourists so a couple of views.




Very "Olde Worlde" and initial glance would say it dates from about 1600 but a couple of telltale signs show that some of the current "OLD" buildings are not quite what they seem. Tudor Buildings of the 1600's had a particular type of chimney stack and not many of those in this village- The rooflines and walls are "Too" straight and the brick dimensions are wrong. Quaint little village though all the same and some of the buildings do appear to be original and correct for the supposed age.

But this was a bike ride today- Road south from here goes over the South Downs and I do mean over. But before you go up---You sometimes have to go down.



Just what you want before a stiff climb- a 150ft height loss that has to be climbed again. Central of the pic and to the right you can see that "White Horse" carving I mentioned last time so you can tell I don't ride in too many places- just different routes.

I really need to take the wife there for a visit. I've been to England several times (mostly Kent, but ventured to Sussex a few times). I love that part of the country.

leads you to a hill and believe it or not- this pic is a 15%er that on the corner at the top goes to 20% and then settles out to about12



It carries on for 1/2 mile at 10 to 12% and the last 200yards lips up to 15% before you can take a break. Think the name is very apt but judge for yourself



From here on is down to the coast and Seaford and the harbour at Newhaven. This area is Cycle minded and The seafront has cycle lanes and a MUP takes you between the two towns.



So one Ride today in perfect cycling weather- must have been as it was only a two layer ride today- Base layer and S/S top-First time this year.

Lovely. Tempts me back. I dropped in at the Cricketers in Berwick a couple of weeks ago before returning here - Know it? I'll buy you a Harveys there one of these days, so long as we both cycle there. If we have 2 then I'm sure I'll be returning with both the spouse and the pickup truck just for those occasions, so we'll be transported home!

My part of Rhode Island is mostly flat with just a few short hills. To ride any hill I have to make a deliberate detour. there is one hill near my house I always ride for the training effort and one very steep hill in an area I need to drive to due to an intervening bridge where cycling is not permitted. I made a protractor-like device to measure slopes as I don't have a good eye to judge. The hill near home is one mile long but mostly 3% to 6% with only an 8% section in the last 50 meters. The one I drive to is 500 meters long and mostly 12% top to bottom. For me, this is very steep and I'm glad it is no longer.

Some of those houses, Tudor, look like a village I went to on a field trip when I was in high school living in England. It was an art class field trip to draw or paint some of the unique buildings. In fact, the art we students produced where judged by a panel, students and faculty. The top 10 where chosen to be used as a fundraiser, Christmas Cards, later that fall. One of mine was actually chosen.

You bet. I remember when we first arrived from the states and seeing English roads for the first time(that I remember; I was born there, but we left when I was only 6 months old--returned when I was 13). Pictures don't really give the true impact. Taking the bus for school from the village I lived in there was part of the road was flanked on both sides by high garden stone walls(good 15 feet high). As the bus passed, I thought we were going to scrape that wall.

This is the Giant TCR-C- The Pinnie has a compact double and a 12/25 cassette. Not ideal for me on this ride.

And the TCR is out on loan again next month- One of my old customers is an MTB rider and wants to try a road bike. As he lives near the hill I did today- better loan him a bike with a triple. AND he owns a garage so In exchange I can use his Ramp and workshop to do a few jobs on the Campavan in exchange.

Barter system still works.
