As some of you may realise- It is 60 years since the Queen- Queen Elizabeth ll- Came to the throne. Britain closes down for the next 4 days with various celebrations being held to mark the occasion. The weekend of Saturday and Sunday is being extended on Monday- because that is a Bank holiday and Tuesday as as that is the anniversary of the accession. So it could be difficult to do business with the UK next week as a lot of people will be taking the rest of the week off aswell. Just a heads up if any of you do business over here.

But 4 days off and what am I going to do with those extra days off work Bit of gardening- bit of shopping and a bit of watching the TV to view the celebrations.

So The next 4 days are something special over here in the UK. BUT what about the rest of you? I propose that there be an unofficial PIE Ride. I say unofficial as the official one is not due till September--But that is a long time away. Usual rules apply- A ride of 15 miles for the experienced amongst us and a shorter ride for the newcomers. Only criteria being that Pie has to be had on the ride. Even if you do not wish to join the UK in the celebration- then you will be able to find another reason for Pie.

So I have 4 days to get a ride in- most of you only have two so work out the route- find the cafe for the break and join me in my celebration of an UNOFFICIAL PIE RIDE.

Sounds like a great excuse for PIE to me!!

Living in Canada, I'm surprised that the League of Monarchist Cyclists hasn't planned a 60-Imperial-Mile Tea Ride for next Tuesday to celebrate the occasion. Pie with tea would be appropriate for the occasion. Righto, time to get cracking!

My first memory is someone walking up to my mother in the street in Manchester and saying "the King is dead". I remember a family celebration that took place for the Coronation the following year - and I still have the glass Coronation mug I was given that day. I think I rode my first 3-wheeler a year or two after that!

No pics but I was Living in London aged 5 on coronation day and a big street party for the kids in the road. Lots of fundraising had been done to provide liquid refreshment for the adults and Prizes for the Fancy dress for the kids. I won the Fancy dress as Robin Hood dressed all in green- except for Brown boots. My mother took months making the costume and I was under strict orders not to let anyone know what I was going as.

Highlight for me was the Ice Cream man coming round in his Trike and giving all the Kids a free Ice cream.

You have just hit on one of the best "Savoury" pies it is possible to have- but it has to be accompanied with Mashed Potatoes- Cabbage and Spotted Dick for dessert. Not the ideal combination for a bike ride.---Especially the spotted Dick.

Here, here, God Save The Queen. I was wondering if you would post on this when I watched today's Diamond Jubilee special on CNN this morning. They are having fairly good coverage that I'll watch on-line at work Monday (ought to be holiday here in the colonies, too.) I have tremendous respect for Her Majesty, Elizabeth Regina.

Was only 5 but if you saw the pageantry that went along with the Coronation- You would realise why it took so long. All the Training to be done and all the ritual to be abided by. Nothing like the old days when you killed the current king in battle and put on the crown and you were king. And from the time George VI died- Elizabeth was queen- she just had not had the ceremony.

My favourite royal memory is from when I was working in a town in Yorkshire. The Queen's motorcade was due to pass our office on the way to some event and my colleagues, being Yorkshiremen, took bets on when Her Royal Highness's Rolls Royce would pass a particular lamp post. When the procession came by none of them were waving - their eyes were fixed on their watches to see who had won!

That's a relief. I was afraid it might be a beef bi-product.

Her purse has a solar panel that enables her to perpetually give the "royal wave." He knew I'd love it because I collect royal memorabilia, (own a plate from Victoria's Jubilee). He works for the British Consulate in NYC. Last night they hosted "The Great British Run." Participants were meant to come in a costume that related to something British. The Consulate shared photos on their Facebook page. Looked like fun!

As for a pie ride for me tomorrow, I'm working all day!
