Nice bike bell(s)?
I'm talking about bells, not horns. Which is the best you have seen? I don't like the "ding" type, but a ring that lasts with loud and pleasant (even melodious) sound. Loud but not scary to old pedestrians

You might not like a "ding," but I find the Crane sold by Soma is excellent. I hit it once when approaching people on the MUPs, and nearly always get a "what's that?" response. When they see me or I then say something, they know I'm coming and leave room.

My fave is the Dimension Bee Hive Bell.
Melodious, but it is a dinger. My only quibble is that the brass nut at the top of the dome tarnishes, and the steel spring for the clapper will rust.

I bought and incredibell off of amazon that went on the stem, a much better location.

Loud, pleasant, melodious? The Crane bell, Japanese-made, brass or copper. Only nit - it is pretty loud, maybe a bit overloud for the times you only want a soft tinkling reminder. Which isn't real often.

Thanks all. From an early thread on the same topic I found link to this where one can hear it. It sounds loud (though not so melodious), but my question to those who have had it: does it sound just once when you press the lever? Was the sound on that web site the result of repeatedly pressing the lever, or pressing it only once?

Those bells that go ding are fine if you are moving at 5 mph on the mup. But I want a BBBBRRRRINNNNGGGGGGG bell that people can hear. If I am approaching a bike from behind and they are going 15 mph and I am going 17 mph, they are NOT going to hear that little ding when the wind noise from the helmet is loud. Most of the bells I've come across won't have louse plastic holder with a single screw. If I want to mount the bell in a convenient location on my bars, it is going to be on the bar tape.
I've been tempted by that Amazon bell, but they don't show the underside of the bell where it mounts to the bike.

the underneath bracket for the Kettler bell is designed for a childs bike (smaller diameter handlebar)
It is a nice bell, but will require some work to adapt it to a standard bike.

One of my three speeds uses a gigantic steel bell from Don Speden at Three Speed Touring in Japan. It makes a classic "ding dong" sound which is loud enough for everyone to hear and is universally recognized as a bike bell - unlike the "ting!" bells which only serve to confuse people, at least in my neck of the woods.
Unfortunately, it's a gigantic steel bell, which means it doesn't have a place on any of my bikes which are even slightly "performance oriented".
