Is there any big advantages and can they be used on the street like a bike ? Do they require anything special?

Three wheels will prevent slipping through traffic jams like a bike, and visibility of the traffic around you looks very bad.

I believe some of those are pretty fast, up to almost twice as fast as the same cyclist on a road bike. If you tweak along at 20, you could hit 35 with the same effort in some of those vehicles.

ill admit they look pretty freaking cool, and i think they would be fun to zip around in, but i cant see it being a practical mode of transportation that i could use to commute.

Yup, the first 3 pedal strokes would be awesome. The forth pedal stroke, while being flattened by mommy's SUV, wouldn't be nearly as cool.

here are some pics from a rally in Europe. They are quite popular over there for commuting. That is the reason these bikes were created. commuting at higher speeds and weather protection.

These are practical due to using 3 wheels. If you had only 2 wheels, you'd have full blown streamliner and not practical but much much faster.
