80's Fuji Royal II
Ok guys and gals, I have been searching the webz like a mad man for my first official road bike, and to get me off of my makeshift Trek 830 with city tires.
I have found a Fuji Royal II that looks like a very good candidate. Guy says it is a 21" Frame, 27" Wheels. He says it has a 31.5" standover height, which has me worried, as I am 70" tall, and have an inseam of 30.5" without any shoes on.
On paper, do you guys think this bike will fit me? I know the easy answer is just go sit on it, but it is roughly 45 minutes away, so I figured I would get everyones opinion first.
Besides the actual size, the only other things that bother me are the old double pull brakes (I already have a set of upgraded road levers to use), and the friction shifters. Would it be possible to switch to Suntour 6 speed Index rear and friction front DT shifters without upgrading the rear deraileur?

That looks like a nice bike, and I think it will fit you fine. If anything, it may be slightly small for you. The price is a bit high, but I know you're not exactly swimming in great bike deals up there...
The brake levers aren't a big deal, but you won't be able to make it index properly by just adding indexing levers. I'd give friction a shot, it's not bad at all once you get the hang of it.

Yes, the bike looks to be in great shape.
And you are right, the bike market around here is crazy! I think I am going to go take a look, and if I can get the price low enough if it fits I will get it.
If I do decide I want index, what am I looking at? New deraileur as well?

While I love Suntour components, I really don't care for Suntour indexing. First, it is obsolete. So parts like replacement freewheels, you are talking high $$ NOS, or trying to cob something together. Secondly, the various groups don't get along very well.
So that leaves you Shimano. Levers, rear derailleur, and freewheel, and you are indexing (rear). You will also need a clamp on lever adapter, guy on ebay sells them.
At some point, you are really $$ ahead if you want indexing to just move ahead with a late 1980s bike instead. There are all kinds of good ones out there.

I believe he was talking about the safety levers, aka suicide levers, turkey wings, etc... The ad is gone now, maybe nolefan grabbed it? Either way, I definitely need to set up a bicycle underground railroad to Tallahassee to unload the road bikes that don't sell easily here
