honestly, it is a bit surprising...and perplexing. That a 40+ yr old (like plenty of others) would dope, especially for such little return. I can understand (not condone)why some younger 'up and coming' might be tempted when they feel like a would-be career could be on the line. But a club level newbie? What a ****in tool.

Not saying I agree with it, but I can understand it...

Why do people get hooked on cocaine, meth, alcohol or any other thing...

It happens...

Tool I will agree but an interesting read.
I agree with Hammy so little in returns, I don't get it.
My wife is getting ready for the State Figure Competition and looks un-frickin believable. She was posing at the gym the other night with her coach in front of some of the other bodybuilders and of course they asked her what cycle she was on. Her answer was simple, nothing, I have never doped and never will, what's the point. Almost everyone that she will be competing against will be dopers and she will win clean.
My point is that the doping exist not only in cycling but almost every other sport where there is competition,

Cummon, imagine how good she would look if she just did this HGH. Really, it's natural, and you can get a doctor's presecription for it. You'll never get caught because there is no reliable test. Really, this is the stuff they give to kids who aren't growing, how could they do that if it weren't safe. Cummon, you'll be so ripped afterwards....

Often what comes next is an injuy. Torn muscle or something and the lingering thought of the drugs comes back, but just as a way to get back into peak form, and then....

I never completely "got it" either, I had my chances and declined, but I can certainly imagine how someone else could end up there.

April 30th, 2009 my wife was almost killed in a motorcycle wreck. Broke her back, her femur, had several surgeries and got a severe head injury. She spent a month in the hospital was released in a wheelchair then progressed to a walker, cane and then nothing. She will be competing with scarring all down one side of her leg. These facts alone show the triumph of the human spirit. She will earn her pro card not only after all these injuries BUT ALSO at the age of 40 after having two children.
Hence the reason I am so anti-PED - if I were to see my wife lose to a doper given all that she has been through I might lose my mind...

you have, at best, a tenuous hold on reality so losing your mind seems more a matter of when than if.

There is no reality.

And, apparently, very little perspective in both the fellow in question, and those who react like he was handing Sandusky the soap.

I'm curious how much was the dope and how much was him. He lost about 20 lbs. He was new to serious riding. In the first few years of serious training you improve a lot. I'm not trying to say that the dope didn't do anything for him, but it wasn't responsible for all of his improvement either.

Without setting up a proper test with a decent sample size there's no way to know.

Who here thinks that an altitude tent is the gateway drug to EPO?

Interesting read. There's a disconnect in there somewhere, in the moral part of things.

I don't know him personally nor do I remember him in races I've done but I can't help but think that he could have been a decent racer even without the drugs. It seems like (but I can't confirm) that he did well only when it came to fitness stuff. This implies he wasn't comfortable with being in the pack, dealing with all the shenanigans that go on in the last lap or three of a crit. To win a Cat 5 Battenkill is maybe not world shattering but it can't be easy. He had some kind of engine in there somewhere, just not the patience to develop it naturally.

dunno. I reserve the right to think that David Anthony is a ****tard without diminishing the severity of acts against children.

No directed at you specifically. But the tone of some of the Velonews posts and here have been of the same ilk as Sandusky. Rot in hell. That sort of thing.

I have a small bucket of outrage left so I guess I like to throw it on people that do actual evil. Quick, name three guys that got caught for doping. Now name Countrywide's CEO.
