Another Hot SART Ride 8/12

41.5 more miles with Gina today. Aimee joined in for the ride. Average temp says 96.1. Warmer than yesterday's temps but we were out there longer so that explain the drop in temp on Saturday. 111 max reading according to Garmin Connect. That was at a water stop with the bike sitting in direct sunlight at about 12:30. Pretty surprised Gina could hold on to a 16.0 average on the second day after a long ride. Pretty tough day for me, the heat and the headwind. Ran into LewisAClark for a bit, other than that, just a hot ride.

Oh, I did bump into Mark at the start of the ride. Few words about his new bike shop (Mark & Dave's). Located on the Southwest corner of Carnelian and Baseline (Sunrise Center next to Smart & Final). Glad it is going well. Mark is the one mechanic I have trusted since I met the guy back in 1996. I don't deal much with bike shops anymore since doing my own but if I ever need something, Mark does it right....the first time, no games! He has since we met. No I do not get paid to say this, it's the truth! ;-)

I think Gina's lenses melted but she's still hanging on to the frames.

Is that a Snoopy jersey or did Gina give up and go with a t-shirt?

She wears a sports top underneath. The Snoopy is a super ligth shell like tshirt her mom gave her. She said she thought it would be cute since Gina likes Charlie Brown stuff, so Gina wears it.

My GF is just getting in to cycling so I took her to the SART on Saturday. We only did from Imperial and the 91 to the rest stop by the "big A" and back, and it was too hot - and that was between 8 and 10 AM on Saturday. I couldn't imagine riding at all on either day later than that... how did you keep your tires from melting onto the ground?

We ride so fast that our tires only make about half the contact of normal riders, so we only get half the heat.

Jackie and I stayed off SART and thought we'd stay cool by riding to Oceanside from Anaheim. It was cool by the time we made it close to the beach but we climbed Meats, Cannon, Santigo Canyon, Live Oak and Trabuco (kinda warm!) before descending to the beach cities. Here's how it looks on Strada: https://www.strava.com/runs/17978925

Started with a group of 5 (Jackie, Alicia, Sylvia, Brian and myself), picked up Linda Adams and Lou Ann at Cooks Corner, then once in Oceanside we met up with Lauretta, Calamari Chris, Jerry and Linda Smyth for lunch at Anita's (in Oceanside).

Then we took the train back to Anaheim station (lots of stops but good A/C on the train!) as Calamari and Lauretta rode back to Carlsbad.
