Bike Nashbar pulling fast one???

Ok this is weird (or maybe I am).
8 or 9 days ago Bike Nashbar had a 29er, the K@ Zed (YB-K2Z29) on a 2 day sale for $299. It has been on their website for $329 FOR MONTHS! I decide to wait since Labor is coming up and BikeNashbar usually offers some good discounts. So I go in yesterday and the price is now $399 (not a typo).
I call Bike Nashbar and the price is indeed $399. When I tell the call taker the price was just $299 and it is usually $329 they have no answer. When I suggest that this is a bait and switch before the Labor day sales, she jumps in and says "oh, the print catalog has it for $349 and we will honor that price????"
WTF.

Has anyone had this experience?

Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

My guess the $299 was a close out on the older model (2012?) and the newer (2013?) ones are coming in at a higher net cost, hence the higher retail price. The difference may only be paint color or something equally minor but that's probably the reason. When Nashbar has a 2 day sale and you want something, jump on it.

I've noticed the same thing at Performance (which is the same company as Nashbar). Prices can fluctuate a lot and are often different in-store, online and in print (thought they'll give you the lowest price no matter which way you buy it if you ask). I was looking at a CX bike around Thanksgiving last year. It listed at $1,800 and was on sale for $1,000. I wasn't ready to buy so I just kept an eye on the pricing. Over the next couple of months, it bounced between $1,250 and $1,600 several times but never got back to $1,000.

I ended up buying a different CX bike (found out the online specs were wrong on the one I was looking at and it didn't have rack mounts I needed). The bike I ended up buying went on sale a month later and I got $100 + tax back with their 90 day price guarantee. Not sure if Nashbar offers the price guarantee.

Yeah, prices go up before 20% off sales. That's just how they roll. Apparently, there are some companies with variable pricing that use cookies to see how many times you visit a certain product's page. If you visit it a lot, or leave it in your cart for a few days, the price does rise slightly, not so much that you'd notice right away, but some. Don't know if nashbar is one of those companies or not.
