Good day,

Im looking to building a single speed track bike (with lugs), I have a question about the rear seat stay. you get it in a diameter of 14mm and 16 mm, however the rear drop outs has a diameter of 9.9mm.

How would you braze this? Do you need to add a filler?

What kind of dropouts? If they have tabs, you slot the end of the stay, insert the tab, and fill the end of the stay with brass. If they're socketed dropouts, you need to select a stay that fits the socket.

THe 9.9mm measurement is the OD of the internal plug on the dropout and is probably intended to fit inside of a 12.5mm OD small end of a seatstay. The NOVA 16mm stays taper to 12.5, .6mm wall thickness so just a bit of a loose fit on the plug.
If your seatstays are large end 14mm OD and taper to 10.5mm, you might be able to get them to work by cutting excess length from the small end, get to larger diameter section and then file the diameter of the 9.9mm plug smaller to match the resulting end of the stay.

If the small end of your stay is actually 14mm OD, those will not work well unless you make and add an approprate thickness sleeve to take up the gap.

Thanks GrayJay, those are the exact rear dropouts. I did not know the SS tapered. This answers my question perfectly.
