New distance record

29.04 miles. (46.73 Km for all you non-imperialists) All told it took like 2 hours 15 minutes.

That's the ride to work and back sticking to the bike paths, except for the like 1 to 2 mile connector between them. Means I can definitely make the ride there with a bag, work 8 hours, and then make it home in the afternoon. And we have showers at work, so I can not be gross working all day.

Nice, I had a business trip to San Mateo recently, do they always play Lights around sunset? I was, of course, on the San Mateo bridge at the time . How much time does that add vs the car commute?

Congratz on the new PB. After doing it a few times, you may find you'll get the trip down to under 1 hour each way.

Fabulous! If you start doing that ride to work and back every day you'll be much stronger in a big hurry.

Excellent. Stick to it as long as you can into the winter months.
Maybe you are far enough south that you can commute all year.

You and your doctor will be amazed by the results.

In quiet traffic at the time I would also ride, it's about a 20 minute ride. In commute traffic, it will take up to 40 minutes. I was thinking if I got fast enough to feel confident on the streets rather than the bike path, I could potentially beat that 40 minute time someday, on the streets it's 9 miles, instead of the 13 miles on the trails.

In Silicon Valley it's not quite south enough to be ideal riding weather all year. I'd be wary of riding it in the rain, although my triathlon bike shorts would handle it just fine, I'm not sure I'd want to be carrying a laptop in that kind of weather, bleh. And in the winter months it can get into the mid to low 30's overnight, which I'm sure is possible for those of you who deal with snow, but I'd rather make the ride in the triple digits than I would below 50.

Also, unfortunately it was DARK when I left at 6am, so Nitelite 1800 is in the mail, along with a taillight to go with it. I was thinking about this for cooler weather: https://www.amazon.com/O2-Nokomis-Rai.../dp/B004UEZRFU Maybe I should ask on the commuter forum about clothes for the ride to work.
