identifying creaky noises?
I think it is my seat on the rails making noise
im right at 290lbs and every time i pedal i get a creaking noise from the bottom bracket/seat area
i can't really tell where---sometimes it seems as if it is coming from the fork as well
how to tell where it is actually coming from
?
how to tell if it is something that is going to eventually fail--to correct it?
suggestions?
ideas?

I had a creaky noise too. I stood up and pedaled and the noise went away. It was my seat.

I had a creaking noise;
I stood up and pedaled
the noise went away
it was my saddle (in my case, I had to tighten the tension on my well-worn Brooks).
Check out Sheldon Brown's Guidelines.

Yeah. Start with taking off your saddle, cleaning out any corrosion, putting it back on tightening everything up properly.

my creaking is always my BB. over the years I have replaced the BB on 3 bikes and I have 1 more that is gonna need it if I ever ride it again. after you rule out everything else, do not fear the BB replacement! :-)
