Shimano freehub dust cap diameter
I"m replacing a freehub on a set of wheels that takes a stock shimano freehub. From what I recall it took a 9sp LX freehub body. I bought a replacement part that supposedly fits 8/9 speed cassettes, but when i got it it looke different than mine, and the diameter of the dust cap is smaller so I can't assemble it.
Does anyone know what part I might need, I need it to support 9sp and have a "larger" dust cap diameter.
I have no idea why there are so many model numbers for a shimano freehub. I wish I could find the magic decoder list of all of Shimano's XT/LX/Deore freehubs.
Thanks

Thanks, i've seen the morningstar replacement dust caps, and that is definitely an option, but I'd still like to know how to figure out what diameter dust cap comes on which freehubs. If anyone knows how to figure this out let me know please.

If you are looking for a database it doesn't exist and the older your hub the harder it will be to find the right one. I had a similar problem with some older XT tandem hubs. You simply need to go to your LBS and hopefully it will be in the QBP catalog. In my case they had to track down a Shimano rep to get the right parts.
