Toe-clippable pedals for largeish (size 12) feet?

Hi all. I've read the FAQ and done a search and haven't found an answer to my question; maybe you can help.

I want some good-quality toe-clippable pedals that will comfortably fit my size 12 feet. Right now I'm using an old pair of Dimension rat-trap whatevers with crunchy unserviceable bearings and plastic clips, and they sorta work, but they are kind of uncomfortable and they cut through the soles of my sneakers.

I tried my friend's #23 Lyotard pedals, and I would totally love them if they were about 50% bigger. Does anybody make anything like that? Both the MKS urban and the similar White Industries pedal seem to be about the same size (and the latter costs a fortune).

I tried the MKS AR-2 because Sheldon says it lacks a "quill" and is good for wider feet, but it does have a quill after all which digs into my foot and gets uncomfortable after a few miles.

Apparently one can kluge clips onto an MKS lambda/grip king, but I'd rather have something that's designed for clips in the first place.

Any suggestions?

I wear a mans 12 shoe. I wear trail runners while I ride. I am finding that I like the freedom to change my pedal presser at will. I can move my foot to a forwards (ball of foot) and really dig at a hill or move back and use the center area for long flats. Changing my foot placement is helping with some muscle pain I was having.

I also talked to some road bike races that are ditching clips and clip-less for freedom of foot movement and a more natural feel also.

I just started using crank brothers egg beaters. So far so good! I also need a 13 cycling shoe

Size 14/50 shoe here...I use Shimano SPD M324 pedals on my Linear 3.0 XL recumbent. They provide excellent support for my clip less shoes, and offer a nice clip free platform for regular shoes on short rides.

They are truly the best of both worlds.

I would suggest trying clipless shoes/pedals instead of toe-clip (cages), with a foot as large as yours I'd imagine it's pretty hard to find cages big enough to put the pressure on the ball of your foot...

Thanks for the responses, folks. I'm aware that I could go clipless, or that I could ride without toe cages. I've actually tried both those options, and I really like toe clips better.

What I'm really looking for is some quality large pedals that will accept toe clips. Thanks.

Let me know if you do, large clips on regular pedals suck.

These pedals are a real good compromise for sneakers on a bike.

Apologies for resurrecting a dead thread here, but I found a solution. I got a pair of the MKS Urban Platform, and although they took a bit of getting used to, I'm happy with them now. The platform is a little smaller than my previous (crappy but large) pedals, but the spindle is longer so the entire platform is squarely in the middle of my foot. And they look pretty and the bearings are SO nice and smooth. At $56 they're a little steep, but I'm worth it.

Still looking for super-big steel toe clips. MKS LL ones kinda mash my toes a little. If I find suitable ones, I'll post here.

FYI - These are the pedals I was considering when I was looking for a pair to use with toe clips:

MKS Touring/XC Pedals

They are available elsewhere too, but I like the Rivendell write-up on them.
